There's a lot more to discover through social media
Kembla Jottings
Established in 2013, Kembla Jottings is a page dedicated to the history and preservation of the remaining cultural heritage of the communities on the slopes and foothills of Mount Kembla, including the extinct community of the Cordeaux River Valley. It's a place to inform, share, gather and discuss our local history.
In Search of the Illawarra Koala
This page was created in 2011, by two friends who became fascinated with Michael Organ's research that identified Hat Hill (Mt Kembla) as the place the type specimen for the koala was collected from in 1803. It set them on a journey to discover what happened to the koala since 1803. Visit and like to find out more.
Mount Kembla Heritage Centre
Mt Kembla Heritage Centre was established in 2008 as a community keeping place and operated for a decade to 2018. The Mt Kembla Mining Heritage Inc group ran yearly festivals from 2002 that grew into a collection of photographs and objects relating to the social, industrial and agricultural aspects of the local community. It no longer has a physical presence in the community, but a Dendrobium Community Enhancement grant managed by Museums and Galleries NSW is seeing the collection professionally catalogued to facilitate decisions about the collection's future.
